one email that really caught my attention was from a person named chaz. don't
get me wrong, all these comments and emails are great! i really enjoy hearing
public's reactions to the game. chaz wrote:
Subject: I want a sequel!
"A co-worker of mine (we're both Asian) received the link to Fobionaire, and
together we played the game. It was great! We filled in each other's gaps of
knowledge. We were having such a great time that our non-Asian coworkers came
around to see what all the laughing was about. A new question would come up,
and everyone else would be stuck, but either my friend or I knew the answer.
Your game gave us a fun way to assert our FOBitude, and maybe raised the
consciousness of our non-Asian co-workers. Pretty ballsy to take these
stereotypes and turning them into something positive.
Fobionaire is the perfect balance of Flash, humor, and controversy. You rule."
'Who Wants To Be a Fobionaire' was featured in the "Yahoo! Picks of the Week
(07-23-2001)". With a short description, "like white on rice." and a detailed
summary as written:
"A joyful celebration of "fresh-off-the-boatness," this game-show parody is
bound to fry some people's rice -- but really folks, this self-deprecating
Asian-American humor site is all in good fun. Answering the 15 questions was no
walk in the park, requiring four participants six tries and numerous life lines
(but thankfully no smirking Regis) to make it to the industrial-size glutinous
grand prize. Happy playing -- oh, and eat more rice. It's good for you."
